Warren Joyce fails to convince Wigan players they’re allowed to pass the ball forwards
Warren Joyce’s managerial stint at Wigan Athletic came to an abrupt end today after just 4 months in charge. He is the latest in a long succession of Latics managers that have not managed to explain the rules to the players. It has lead to a paltry goal tally of just 31 this season.
The players still fail to believe the coaches when they tell them they’re allowed to pass forwards, don’t have to give it back to the opposition after five passes and are supposed to be putting the ball underneath the bar. Joyce reportedly snapped last week when one of his players kicked for the corner after being awarded a penalty. Wigan players are said to have then gone to the owners and said the manager didn’t understand the rules and had to go.
This is not a new phenomenon however, recent managers of Leeds, Hull and Bradford have all had similar problems, while the Huddersfield players have taken until very recently to try doing what their manager wanted with some amazing results.
